Safety Sensors for Garage Doors in the Greater Phoenix Area

Safety sensors for garage doors are one of the greatest inventions of the garage door industry.
The reason sensors were developed is because with the advent of garage door openers came a rash of crush accidents. In 1993, mandated garage door safety sensors made crush accidents much less likely, although they are still a threat, mostly to children.
For this reason, even a garage door with safety sensors should be treated with caution. Never allow children or pets to play around the garage door. Teach older children to have a healthy respect for the garage door operation and to never run underneath the garage door when it’s in motion. Adults should also refrain from the practice since children learn many things by imitation.
Any new garage door installation will have safety sensors. However, a garage door installed before 1993 may not have them. It’s a good idea to have garage door safety sensors installed.
How we check if garage door sensors aren’t working
-
Visual Inspection
Dirt can cause sensors to malfunction. Cleaning the glass photo eye with a soft cloth will restore sensing capabilities.
-
Indicator Lights
Blinking lights indicate the sensors are misaligned and should be realigned until the lights stop blinking.
-
Inspect Wiring
Sensor wires can become crimped, causing the system to fail. As a system failure is hazardous, the garage door should only be used after the garage door sensors are replaced.
-
Realign Sensors
While sensors are carefully placed, they can easily be jostled and fall out of alignment. Restoring them to their correct position will put them back in sync and should restore function.
How Do Pinnacle Garage Door Safety Sensors Work?
A basic safety sensor system consists of two photo eyes on either side of the garage door, about six inches from the ground. These sensors are directed at one another, creating a “line in the sand,” as it were. An object detected between the two sensors during the closure of the garage door results in an abrupt halt and reversal of the garage door.
